ANTI-NEPOTISM POLICY

Excerpt from PERSONNEL CODE FOR COUNTY OF ERIE, EFFECTIVE DATE:
September 4, 1979, Section 10, Appointments and/or Promotions:

The following policies shall govern appointments and/or promotions of Erie County employees:

** G. In the interest of providing proper and reasonable protection against the negative aspects of nepotism, the following prohibitions are established:

  1. No relative of any Elected Official or County Employee at the level of Director shall be eligible for County employment.
  2. One member of an immediate family may not supervise any member ofthe same family.
  3. The term “relative” or “immediate family” shall mean: husband, wife, son, daughter, brother, sister, parent, grandparent, grandchild, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, parent-in-law, aunt, uncle, niece or nephew.This policy shall apply only to those applying for County employment after the date of the establishment of the revision of the nepotism policy (3/16/82) and shall not prevent the continued employment by the County of any person at that time in violation of this policy.
