Definition of Class
- Performs professional and administrative duties including the assistance in supervision of department. Collections Coordinator assists in a broad range of public service activities focused on meeting the mission and vision of the library. Supports the Assistant Director of Collections in collection maintenance, special collections, staff and building supervision.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Collections:
- Assist in the selection, acquisition, cataloging, and maintenance of library materials as directed.
- Assist with the staffing, scheduling and daily operations of professional public service desks.
- Assist in preparing and managing the collections budget, including tracking expenditures, as well as related reports as directed.
- Stay up to date on circulation policies and procedures.
- Assist with the implementation of collection development policies and procedures.
- Manage digitization of Erie County Public Library collection items and participate in State wide digitization efforts.
- Select and maintain Blasco Library local history and genealogy collections.
- Serve on committees such as Reconsideration of Materials.
- Provide training to new hires and continuous support to branch staff on collection management practices and tools as directed by the Assistant Director of Collections.
- Collect and analyze data on collection usage and community feedback to support decision-making as directed.
- Assist in promoting the library’s collections through displays, programs and marketing efforts.
- Stay informed about trends in publishing, library technology, and collection development.
- Provide Reference coverage as needed.
- Serve as an evening manager, day manager, and weekend manager on a rotating basis.
- Perform other tasks related to collection development and management as assigned.

- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Experience with library management systems and cataloging standards.
- Reference experience and demonstrable knowledge of library principles, methods, and practices.
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Office and other relevant software.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in collection development
- Supervisory experience preferred.
- Broad and current knowledge of library trends and practices

Minimum Requirements
- Master’s degree in Library Science (MLS/MLIS) from ALA-accredited program or at least 12 credits earned with an anticipated degree completion date within 24 months
- At least 2 years of experience in collection management in a library setting is preferred
- Ability to lift and carry library materials, including books and equipment, up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to travel between library branches and attend meetings or professional development events.
Conditions Of Employment
- The selected candidate will be pre-employment required to obtain, at their own expense, 3 forms of clearance, including PA State Police Criminal History Record Check; PA Child Abuse history; and FBI Criminal History Background Check including finger printing.
