Definition of Class

  • Interviewing applicants in the Domestic Relations Section, in order for them to secure Support Orders for children and/or spouses.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Conducts office interviews with clients and makes decisions on what complaints/petitions should be taken including but not limited to UIFSA or IFSA.
  • Prepares complaints for support, petitions to amend complaints, petitions to set support and petitions to modify, suspend or terminate existing orders for support.
  • Process withdrawals/dismissals if actions for support can no longer be processed.
  • Obtains and updates pertinent information to enter and enforce support orders.
  • Interacts professionally with Judges, other Court Offices locally and statewide and relevant inter-governmental agencies as may be required.
  • Identifies data properly through PACSES electronic interfacing.
  • In conjunction with the Locate Unit, establishes location of absent parents by use of all resources available. Prepares daily statistical reports.
  • Assist with Genetic Testing and other duties when necessary.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Knowledge of the Pennsylvania Rules of Civil Procedures and departmental procedures as it pertains to the filing and receipt of petitions.
  • Interact professionally with the public and clients with empathy and firmness.
  • Working knowledge of computer interfacing including data entry and monitoring data.
  • Defuse volatile situations and work effectively with people to aid them in adjusting to their specific requests.
  • Ability to analyze, interpret and evaluate case records, both computerized and hard copy and take sound courses of action bases on departmental procedures.
  • Good communication skills, especially when dealing with difficult situations or subject matters.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Sciences or related field, OR 5 years of relevant experience in Domestic Relations within Pennsylvania.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience dealing with the public.
  • Previous training in interviewing and gathering information while utilizing good communication skills (verbal & written).
